Artist Hazzan Basya Schechter
Posted by Jack Klebanow • Music Director

Hazzan Basya, one of our wonderful resident guest artists, has just released a stunningly beautiful new album entitled “Songs of Desire” and this is one of my favorites off the album.  What a groove and what a sound!  You’ll have no choice but to smile when you hear this. Many of the artists who play with Hazzan Basya on this track have been Shoresh Halev guests, and Basya’s new Al Hanisim is part of our Shirei Neshama series. We’re so grateful and proud of you, Basya! See https://pharaohsdaughterband.bandcamp.com/album/songs-of-desire for full album.

Text from שִׁ֥יר הַשִּׁירִ֖ים Song of Songs

Chorus (4:16):

Awake, O north wind,

Come, O south wind!

Blow upon my garden,

That its perfume may spread.

Let my beloved come to his garden

And enjoy its luscious fruits!

Verse (5:10):

My beloved is clear-skinned and ruddy,

Preeminent among ten thousand.

Chorus

Verse (5:11):

His head is finest gold,

His locks are curled

And black as a raven.

Bridge (5:9)

How is your beloved better than another,

O fairest of women?

How is your beloved better than another

That you adjure us so?

Chorus

Verse (5:12):

His eyes are like doves

By watercourses,

Bathed in milk,

Set by a brimming pool.

Chorus
