As we sang and rejoiced this morning for Shabbat Shirah, honoring the retirement of a beloved teacher in our community, a person entered Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas and took Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker and several congregants hostage. This is an ongoing crisis situation and we pray for the safety and well-being of the hostages and the police and negotiators who are at the scene.
It is our custom to recite Psalms during such times, praying that this situation will come to a swift and safe resolution. We had the opportunity to do this together today between Mincha and Maariv, the afternoon and evening prayers.
When someone calls on Me, I will answer them; I will be with them in their distress. Psalm 91
As always, the safety and security of our community remains our top priority. While this seems to be an isolated incident, we are in communication with the New Rochelle Police Department.
May this situation resolve quickly and may all of the hostages be released to safety.
Sincerely,
The Beth El Clergy Rabbi David A. Schuck Rabbi Zachary Sitkin Rabbi Jessica Fisher Cantor Gaby Schvartz
