Beth El’s Mitzvah Initiative Program

On Rosh Hashanah you heard the rabbis speak about the importance of recapturing the concept of mitzvah in our lives. To help us do this, Chancellor Arnold Eisen and a team of educators from the Jewish Theological Seminary have designed a curriculum of informal chevruta-style study to be used within forty-two synagogues throughout the United States. Beth El is privileged to be one of these selected synagogues. Beth El wants YOU to be part of the Mitzvah Initiative.

What is the Mitzvah Initiative?
The core of this program will be study groups (chevrutot) meeting regularly (approximately once a month between October and June) to study, reflect, share, and converse about how we define ourselves—as individuals, as family members, and as Conservative Jews —what role mitzvah (obligation) plays in our lives, and how we can make it even more central.

What are you committing to?
· Thirteen sessions of informal study to meet at a time convenient to you.
Ten of these sessions will be with your small group and three will be as one large group. Sessions will last from an hour to an hour and a half.
· Sharing your honest feelings
· A fee of $36 to cover costs of materials and light refreshments
