Make A Difference…A Different Purim Mitzvah (Formerly Mishloach Manot) (Deadline: February 19th)
In the past, the Beth El Youth Community has helped members of our congregation fulfill one of Purim's four mitzvot—sending Mishloach Manot. Hearing the Megilah (twice!) and partaking in a feast are two other important mitzvot expected of Jews at Purim. This year, the Beth El Youth Community invites you to fulfill the special and important fourth mitzvah, Matanot L'Evyonim, “giving to the needy.” In light of everything going on in our world, we want to make a difference and help others by focusing on this mitzvah.
In lieu of preparing Mishloach Manot baskets, we will help those whose needs are greater than our own by contributing funds raised to support two worthwhile charities: Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. As in years past, this continues to be the sole fundraiser of the Beth El Youth Community and we count on you for your support and participation. Funds raised will go to support the Beth El Youth Community and youth programming and to the two charities mentioned above. How can I participate? 1. Visit www.purimproject.com and log in with your username and password (mailed to you). Contact Erica Leventhal at ELeventhal@bethelnr.org if you need a reminder. 2. Choose the families and members of the staff whom you would like to recognize at Purim. 3. You can choose to make a donation in honor of someone outside of the Beth El Community. More details about this are available on the website. 4. A donation will be made in honor of those families and staff chosen, and they will receive a card notifying them of your generous contribution in their honor. 5. “Reciprocity” is again available. If you choose this option, anyone who selects to make a donation in your honor, who you did not include in your initial selection, will receive a donation in their honor from you at $3 per. (For example, if five people have made a donation in your honor and you had not already included them on your list, by selecting reciprocity, you will be billed an additional $15 and these five people will receive a donation in their honor from you.) 6. There is a $180 cap on all orders placed (excluding cards sent to members outside the Beth El Community). Click on as many names as you would like and your order will be no more than $180. 7. All orders must be placed by Friday, February 19th. After this, no orders will be accepted and you will not be able to access the website.
If you have any questions regarding this year’s campaign, please contact Erica Leventhal at 914-235-2700, ext. 333, or ELeventhal@bethelnr.org.
From all of us in the Beth El Youth Community we wish you a chag sameach!
Erica Leventhal
